It snowed last Thursday, 4 inches, and again last night and today on and off (another 4 or more I guess. I made and sold Christmas mince pies, sold fudge, flapjacks and Scottish tablet with Joan and others at a market yesterday and am going to a carol service tonight in the neighbouring village.
Been for a few walks, and a RUN in the snow (be impressed, be very impressed - the photo is of Penny in running gear).

The bottom two are a similar spot, the first with snow, the second with frost the day before.
Life is very different and very cold. It made me laugh to see the street cleaner vacuuming the streets unpertubed at the snow falling, people walking their dogs (with little doggy jackets on), going to the shops, as if it's not -8 degrees and snowing. Cool.

ahoy hoy its penny time
ReplyDelete[which means many a tedious rhyme]
looks as though youre in
for a christmas of white
i hope that santa finds you
no trouble on the night
its sounds kinda special
yet it sounds kinda cold
to be surrounded by snow
or so ive been told
for over this away
it couldnt be much more hot
all the sweating and chaffing
means jolly we are not
yet with you are our hearts
and our thoughts and our prayers
so for us drain an eggnog
and shout out a "cheers!"
christmas shant be the same
without penny around
no africanish congo
not even a sound
no beautiful guitar
with its symbol masonic [;)]
to make noise that act
upon our souls like a tonic
our worship leaders are without
a cookie monster grins
though that cold be fixed
with a couple stiff gins
so we for your return
we await anxiously
and if you want me to rhyme that
you have to wait and see...[oh dear]
so enjoy your celebration
upon distant shores
with pasty white europeans
and their drunken roars
"merry chrishmish merry chrishmish"
they extol voicefirously
"and happy new year to you"
our dear missed penny
ooh that does sound rather novel. how fun. I enjoy all your updates. I hope to see photos of how you spend Christmas Day in a week or so. :) Much love - and Merry Christmas! - from me xxx

ps Jan says Hi and Merry Christmas, she is often speaking of you. By the way I have harvested 2 cauliflowers and am enjoying beans and radishes.
ReplyDeleteThe plants are not dead and the garden isn't in too bad a condition.
